How can I repaint glazed pottery?

Question: How can I repaint glazed pottery? I received it as a gift and would like to modify some colors and design.

Answer: Glaze has to be melted off by placing the piece of pottery in a kiln. Others might recommend you to do the laborious task of sanding it gently until you are able to prime it and repaint it. But overall, sanding, priming and all these can be quite impractical and could lead to scratching and damaging the surface, so you would want to be very careful.

Better to bring it to a studio that offers restoration services, which include the careful handling of your pottery. They will make sure to follow your design preferences while at the same time maintaining the high standards of ceramic, porcelain restoration, and other kinds of repairing and restoration techniques.
